Dice & Miniatures©

Welcome to the  first public announcement of the new table top role playing game that I have been developing over the last two years called 'Dice & Miniatures'. Scroll down the page for more information.....

Introduction.

Dice & Miniatures is a miniatures based table top board game designed to be played by one or more players. The game does not require a 'Games Master' to run it and is capable of being played by a single player.
The games focuses around 1:50 scale models with characters having a 20mm square base. The playing board ( I use the term loosely ) is comprised of sections which I will refer to as 'Playing Tiles'. Each Playing Tile is a room or area and has a 20mm square grid showing where players ( and enemies ) can move.
When moving a group, player or party between world locations a larger area map is used which has a hexagonal grid.

I plan to release all Maps and Playing Tiles as free digital downloads so that players can print their own.

All models required to play this game will not only be sold as physical objects but will also be available to be purchased as Digital Downloads. This gives customers the option to 3D Print the models themselves which greatly reduces the costs of getting into this genre of gaming.

The game is planed to be released as an A4 Hardback Rule Book with a planed price of £15 and then subsequent Quests which will be released as paper backs. This allows customers the option of which quests they wish to invest in and also allows the option of just buying the Rule Book and making their own quests.

What inspired me to make this game?

I'm a dad and my kids are just entering their early teens. It was at that same age that I, myself, first got into painting miniatures and playing table top.
At that time miniatures were made of soft metal and cost around about 25 pence (32 cents for our American friends) each. I know what you must be thinking and the answer is yes I am that old.
The cost of miniatures has soared over the years and the industry has moved it's focus towards war games requiring lots of very expensive miniatures.
Quests and adventures have pretty much become the property of the pen and paper games such as Dungeons & Dragons (big fan by the way) and the cost of entry has become to high for most teens.
So my reasons for making this game are three fold....
1, I wanted to reduce the cost of getting in to table top gaming using miniatures.
2, I wanted the game to be easy to pick up and learn.
3, I wanted people to go on adventures together instead of going to war with each other.

Why now?

With 3D Resin Printing becoming more available for the public (myself included) and the quality of such prints reaching such high standards it felt like the doors to this industry were being thrown wide open.
I started out writing table top when I was in high school originally inspired by such publications as 'Dragon Magazine' (it really was a long time ago). I then moved into video games and became a 3D artist.
Making this game and the models required for it feels like a coming together of all my skills in the once place.
I feel that the time is right for this industry to start diversifying once more and that 3D printing is going to allow that to happen in a way we have never seen before.
